New Christopher Robin Trailer Features Pooh Leaving The Hundred Acre Wood
The first teaser for the live-action Christopher Robin introduced us to the Winnie the Pooh. The new full trailer lets us meet all of his friends and see his home in the Hundred Acre Wood. However, it turns out that's only part of the story, as the real fun of Christopher Robin begins when Pooh and his friends decide to leave the Hundred Acre Wood and venture out into the rest of the world. The trailer, which was debuted by Ellen, opens similarly to the teaser we were given a couple months ago, it reveals the reason Winnie the Pooh is in the middle of London is that a tree in the Hundred Acre Wood works as a doorway between there and, apparently, wherever it needs to go. Pooh enlists Christopher Robin's help in finding them, and while you might think that's what the movie is about, that's actually just the beginning. The trailer shows this errand being successful, Christopher Robin realizing he needs to go see his family and running off. However, Pooh and friends decide to follow him, and that's when things start to get extra silly.
We get to see and hear the rest of the Winnie the Pooh crew for the first time in this trailer. We see Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, and Owl but we also get to hear the voices of Tigger, Eeyore, and Piglet. They sound just as perfect as Pooh. Similarly to the way Beauty and the Beast transformed the animated film into a real life thing, the voices make the classic animated characters from the Disney cartoons come to life, living toys anyway.
If you were the sort of person to get slightly emotional at the sound of Winnie the Pooh's voice in the teaser, odds are this trailer is going right for your emotional core. It just looks as sweet and adorable as you can possibly imagine. The easy play for a movie like this is to go slightly darker or cynical and play the sweetness of the story for laughs, but everything we see here implies the movie is going to play it entirely straight. Nearly everything Pooh says here is loveable, from feeling pride at his "silly explanation" to the line about nothing being impossible, the only thing that's impossible is not loving the stuffed bear.
Along with the new trailer, Disney also released a brand new poster for Christopher Robin, showing off the entire cast of lovable characters and a slightly perturbed Ewan McGregor as the title character. It's a bit nicer than the other one we saw recently.
I'll be bringing tissues along with the popcorn when I go see Christopher Robin later this summer. The film hits theaters in August.
The website's critical consensus reads, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has glimmers of the magic familiar to Harry Potter fans, but the story's spell isn't as strong as earlier installments". On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 52 out of 100, based on 48 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".
