Universal Studios' Hagrid Rollercoaster Is Cutting Down Hours

The newest attraction at Universal Orlando Resort, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, has been incredibly popular. Wait times have been absolutely insane, with some waiting as many as 10 hours to get a chance to ride the new roller coaster. However, with that popularity has come difficulties. The constant running of the ride has already caused breakdowns which, when combined with the Florida weather delays, has meant that wait times have been even longer than anticipated.

This morning Universal Orlando Resort announced that in order to keep the ride in peak working order, maintenance teams will need more time to work on the attraction, and so the ride will not be opening along with the park every morning, and instead will be opening some time around mid-day for the next couple weeks.

Clearly, for Universal Orlando to be taking this step, things are not going quite as expected for the new ride. While certainly one expects any new theme park attraction to be popular, Hagrid's Magical Motorbike Adventure has been dealing with an incredible demand which the park admits it wasn't anticipating. People are standing in lines that last for half a day.

Because the lines have been so long, the attraction has been running late into the night, after the rest of the park has closed, to work through the line. The only other alternative is to kick people out of line at the end of the night, and that would lead to a lot of unhappy guests. Because of the late nights, it seems that the routine maintenance that the ride needs isn't getting done at night as it should.

Assuming that the lack of overnight repairs are the reason that the roller coaster has been breaking down during the day, then this is probably the best possible solution to a situation that simply doesn't have a good solution. It's either open the ride late or deal with breakdowns.

Not every delay has been specifically due to the ride breaking down. Weather is also an issue. Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is an outdoor roller coaster, which means that when it rains, the ride has to be put on hold. Since this is Orlando, that certainly happens, and it's been something the roller coaster has been dealing with since it opened.

Still, this will certainly lead to some frustrated people. The vast majority of people visiting the Universal theme parks are going to be people on vacation who have a limited amount of time to spend in the parks. Many may have specifically scheduled their trip at this time of year in order to be sure to ride the new coaster. Now their chances of doing so will be greatly reduced.

Clearly, the decision to cut back on hours is something of an emergency decision. This is the last thing Universal Orlando Resort would be doing if there were any other choice. Safety is an issue and if proper maintenance can't be done on the ride, that becomes a potential problem.

It will be interesting to see how this new schedule works out. The ride has seen some delayed openings already. Based on the way it has been handled, the line for the ride likely will not open until the ride does, and who knows how many people would be willing to get in it if it did? One can imagine guests starting to mill around the ride around lunch time waiting for it to open, which could cause issues with people trying to walk through.

Talk of a virtual queue that would allow guests to hold a place in line without having to physically stand there has been has been going on, but it doesn't look like that will be used consistently.

Hopefully, the new roller coaster will be able to work through these issues. By all accounts the ride really is worth it, some are calling it the best roller coaster in Orlando.

Dakota Johnson Trained To Dance For Suspiria While Filming Fifty Shades Freed

Dakota Johnson finished up her time as the face of the Fifty Shades franchise earlier this year, and now she is branching out for two of fall's most intriguing films. One of those films, Suspiria, required the actress to learn to dance, and it turns out that training required so much training that she needed to do it while still filming Fifty Shades Freed. She recently, explained,

I trained on and off for about a year before we started filming, but I'm not a professional dancer. It was terrifying.

Even on and off, a year is a lot of time to put into something before the cameras even begin to roll, and I imagine training to dance while also focusing on her performance in Fifty Shades Freed had to be especially taxing. As Dakota Johnson told Entertainment Weekly, she's not a professional dancer, but the film basically requires her to look like one so that amount of work was necessary.

Luca Guadagnino's remake of Suspiria sees Dakota Johnson's character Susie Bannion accepted into a prestigious Berlin dance academy. She slowly begins to discover the evil lurking beneath the glamour, but that's simultaneous with her rise to be one the most prestigious students in her class. Johnson needed to be great at dancing and performing the film's choreography to convincingly play the role, and that took a whole lot of dedication.

Part of that involved a big dance scene in front of an actual audience - which apparently terrified Dakota Johnson. Given the revealing nature of the Fifty Shades films, you would think that just dancing in front of people wouldn't faze her, but I suppose the crowd of strangers watching, and the desire to make the dance look good made it quite nerve-wracking.

Dakota Johnson worked hard to mitigate that terror and make sure that her performance in the film was believable. Given how long an average day is on set, you might think that the actress did her dance training on her days off. But no, she left Christian Grey's playroom and went straight to the dance floor, as she explained to Reuters,

I was filming another movie in Vancouver, the third 50 Shades movie, and I would go after work or before to train with the trainer.

All that work sounds like it was worth it too. Suspiria is one of the big horror movies to look forward to this month. The early reactions have been mixed but largely positive and our own Eric Eisenberg called it a "horrifying nightmare" that is "shockingly gorgeous."

The nature of the film actually gave Dakota Johnson more to do after the film was finished too. Before filming she needed dance training, and after production wrapped she actually needed therapy. And you thought Fifty Shades was the film she couldn't escape. But hey, at least she's got some great dance skills now.

Suspiria opens in theaters on October 26th. That Time Benedict Cumberbatch Got Kicked Really Hard On The Set Of Doctor Strange

In November 2016, Doctor Strange took the Marvel Cinematic Universe by storm by introducing Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange. The film became a hit by embracing action, comedy, and magic in ways that the MCU had never done before, but the process wasn't an easy one for everyone involved. In fact, in a recent interview, Doctor Strange actor Scott Adkins opened up and revealed that he nailed Cumberbatch in the chest while filming one of the movie's standout fight scenes where the two were fighting while running up a building. Adkins explained how they were filming the same scene over and over again and he wasn't hitting the mark, until a series of unfortunate events led to him totally kicking the other actor. He said:

Benedict's such a lovely guy. But there's a bit where we run up the wall, and the first thing I do is jump onto a banister. I have to jump off the banister and 'kick' Benedict in the chest. We're on about the 10th take, and I've either missed or not hit him hard enough... lots of pressure. On the 10th take, I could see the faces are dropping a bit, and I'm like 'Oh fuck it, I'm just gonna have to go for it.' Benedict probably thought, 'Oh I'm going to help him out a little bit here by coming a little closer for his kick.' And I smashed him, hard, in the chest. And he went back, and he smashed off the banister with his back. And I do remember thinking, 'Easy Scott, that was a little bit too hard there, mate.' But he was great. He was fine about it.

The scene in question takes place toward the end of Doctor Strange's second act when Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen) and his goons stage an all-out assault on the Sanctum Sanctorum. Benedict Cumberbatch and Scott Adkins got to exchange some impressive fake blows during the fight sequence, but in his comments on the Empire podcast, Akins revealed that the pressure of filming the scene led to one kick getting a bit too real during a later take. Luckily, Cumberbatch was fine and seemed to take the whole thing in good spirits, at least per what Scott Adkins said.

The good news is that the final product came off without a hitch, and you can check out a clip from that badass fight sequence, below!

Despite how painful this whole ordeal sounds for Benedict Cumberbatch, there's also a sense that things might not get any easier for The Sorcerer Supreme going forward. Stephen Strange will appear in Avengers: Infinity War and play an integral role in the battle against Thanos (Josh Brolin) and The Black Order, so much of the marketing material for the film seemingly suggests that the mystic hero will find himself put through a physical and mental wringer -- particularly in his conflict with Ebony Maw. Cumberbatch himself has also hinted at the possibility of Strange's death, so we will have to keep an eye out for all of the pain that the character (and by extension, the actor) may go through as the next Marvel story unfolds.

Stephen Strange will make his next appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe later this month when Avengers: Infinity War debuts in theaters on April 27.
