Long before she married Ben Affleck, or helped Alexander through his terrible horrible no good very bad day, Jennifer Garner was an ass-kicking action hero on the ABC television series Alias. (Hey Netflix, reboot THAT show pronto!) Studios stopped trying to lean into that side of Garner's on-screen abilities -- Elektra might have scared them off -- but the new movie Peppermint is blowing the dust off of the actress's lethal accomplishments to cast her as a vengeful angel of death. Here's the brutal but thrilling trailer for this year's Peppermint:

The title of the movie, with a trailer on Fandango, references the favorite ice cream flavor of Riley North's daughter. North (Garner) bought some for her child, then watched helplessly as the girl and her father were gunned down by members of a drug cartel. North wants to testify against the men who took away everything she cared about. But corruption at all levels of the courts works against her, and the men who murdered her family are set free.

Big mistake.

Taking a page from the origin story of Marvel's own Punisher, Peppermint turns Riley North (Jennifer Garner) into a warrior. She drops off the grid for five years, and trains. She becomes unstoppable, then returns home to serve up ice-cold plates of justice to the cartel members who ripped her heart out.

The thing about Peppermint -- which was also the thing about Alias -- is that Jennifer Garner can sell kick-ass action. She's vicious in her fight scenes. She looks like she was raised on a gun range, and adeptly handles all manor of weaponry with ease. I never doubted the ability of Sydney Bristow while watching Garner dispose of bad guys on the ABC series, and I see no issue with believing that Riley North is a savage killer with vengeance in her heart and five-years of throat-slashing training under her belt when this movie needs me to accept that. Bring it on.

Peppermint comes from Pierre Morel, who helmed Liam Neeson's original Taken (good!) and John Travolta's From Paris With Love (bad!). So this could go in any direction. It's interesting that the movie will try to fill a time slot -- Autumn -- where Bruce Willis attempted to bring back Death Wish, and failed miserably. Unfortunately, that movie reached theaters in the shadow of yet another school shooting, and audiences likely didn't want to pay to escape reality by watching another person with a gun. Peppermint might face similar obstacles. We'll know when we get closer to the movie's release date on September 7.

Looks Like Brian May Thinks A Bohemian Rhapsody Sequel Is Possible

Bohemian Rhapsody is already the most successful musical biopic in movie history, and now it's started to add awards to its list of accolades. If this were any other movie you would fully expect talk of sequels to be rampant, but considering the story the movie tells, such a thing would seem impossible, right? Well, maybe not. Queen's Brian May who helped produce the movie suggests that, who knows, maybe a sequel could happen. According to May...

No. I think there's a natural culmination there. And that has pretty much always been the case, from the earliest scripts. We felt that was the pinnacle -- despite what some people have said in the press, who know fuck-all about it. Somebody who shall be nameless said: 'Oh, they're going to portray Freddie dying in the middle of the movie, and then the rest of it is gonna be about life without Freddie.' Well, complete bullshit. This is all about Freddie, and I think Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel [laughs].

While Brian May laughs at the idea of a sequel, he does ultimately make the suggestion and while he says that Live Aid was the right place to leave the story of Bohemian Rhapsody, that wasn't the actual end of Queen or even Freddie Mercury, so there is technically more story to tell.

Having said that, Brian May completely discounts the claim that there was ever a plan for Freddie Mercury to die in the middle of Bohemian Rhapsody and for the remainder of the film to follow the living members of Queen after his death. The person that Brian May won't name to Louder is Sacha Baron Cohen, who had previously been attached to play Mercury. He says that part of the reason he left the project was because of a script that saw Mercury die in the middle of the story.

While Freddie Mercury doesn't die in the middle of Bohemian Rhapsody, any sequel to it would likely see the character pass away early in the story, so the character would probably die in the middle of the next film. Live Aid took place in 1985 and Mercury died in 1991 so if Mercury would survive a sequel until the end, the entire movie could only cover six years, while Bohemian Rhapsody covered a period more than twice that long.

Bohemian Rhapsody's success notwithstanding, a sequel seems unlikely. The movie covered most of the major aspects of Freddie's life as well as the best of Queen's music, even the songs that were chronologically out of order. There doesn't seem to be much left to do, though I suppose we'll have to wait and see to be truly sure.

There's A Cool MCU Theory About Odin And The Infinity Stones

Warning: SPOILERS for Avengers: Infinity War are ahead!

The Infinity Stones were brought into play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the end of Thor, when Nick Fury showed Erik Selvig the Tesseract, a.k.a. the Space Stone. Three years later, Thor: The Dark World introduced the Aether, a.k.a. the Reality Stone, and it was revealed in the mid-credits scene the true importance of these powerful artifacts. We even learned in Thor: Ragnarok that the Infinity Gauntlet kept in Odin's treasure room was fake, but one Marvel fan has come up with an intriguing theory that the reason the All-Father wanted to conquer the Nine Realms was so he could obtain the six Infinity Stones.

As the theory posits, Odin learned about the Infinity Stones from his father Bor, who snatched the Reality Stone from the Dark Elves. When Odin rose to power, he first discovered the Space Stone and used it to transport his armies across the universe. He then went to Nivadellir and commissioned the creation of a device that would allow him to control all the Infinity Stones at once, and the test version is the one that was on display in his vault. However, when Odin learned he would need to sacrifice what he loved most, his daughter Hela, in order to get the Soul Stone, he realized he couldn't do it, and this is what triggered his shift from conqueror to benevolent ruler.

Hela, on the other hand, didn't understand why Odin would make such a decision, which led to them fighting and Odin ultimately imprisoning Hela, possibly by using the Space Stone. From there, Odin hid the Space Stone on Midgard, a.k.a. Earth, and he probably knew where the Reality Stone was since his father had once possessed it. Having left the Soul Stone where it rested, it's unclear if Odin knew where the remaining three Infinity Stones were, but regardless, he decided to keep that test version of the Infinity Gauntlet around as a reminder of all he'd lost and done. Later, when Thanos traveled to Nidavellir, the dwarves used their knowledge of the test Gauntlet they'd made for Odin to build the Mad Titan the real Infinity Gauntlet.

This Reddit theory is certainly interesting and fits nicely with what we've learned about this particular mythology in the MCU. The only major issue I have with it is that Hela's reaction to seeing the Space Stone in Thor: Ragnarok doesn't line up with someone who knew what just what the Stones were capable of when brought together. Granted, Hela was shown being able to teleport herself, but even so, you'd think she'd have more to say than "That's not bad." One could also argue that Odin and Hela were powerful enough that they wouldn't have needed the Infinity Stones to conquer the universe, but still, if Odin had collected all six, he would have become a true god, so that definitely would have sealed the deal.
